Population: 81,713,520 (June 2008 Est.) 95% of which live in an area of just 36,000 Km2 (The Nile Valley & Delta). That's more than 70 million people living in an area the size of Belgium, or just a quarter the size of the state of Florida.
Borders: Israel (266km), Gaza Strip (11km), Libya (1115km), Sudan (1273km)
Topography: 96.4% of the country's area is made up of barren hills, mountains and desert. The remainder constitutes the Arable Nile Valley and Delta region where the vast majority of the population live.
Chief of State: President Muhammad MURSI (since 30 June 2012)
Religions: Muslim (mostly Sunni) 90%, Coptic 9%, other Christian 1%
Languages: Arabic (official), English and French widely understood by educated classes
